Most of our merchants simply think of the TrustCommerce payment gateway as 100% reliable. Those
that are technically inclined are probably well aware that there is no such thing as 100%
reliability. No matter how stable or bug-free your software may be, in the real world, things
fail. Storms and earthquakes may knock loose power lines or Internet connections. RAM and hard
drives go bad. Routers go out of operation temporarily. And those of us in California know that
brownouts are a very real threat in 2001.
So how can we offer this kind of reliability? The answer lies in something that engineers call
"failover". There is no single point of failure in the TrustCommerce system; our processors are
geographically distributed throughout the US, and our client software automatically "fails
over" between these processing nodes. Failover happens automatically, transparently, and
instantly. Although our individual nodes rarely go down (largely thanks to the incredible
stability of open source software), the Internet itself is prone to instabilities and outages.
But you'll never notice; with TrustCommerce, you'll never be unable to run transactions.
Other systems may advertise 98.9% uptime, but remember - that comes out to
more than 3 days downtime a year! For a high volume site, that's a lot of
lost revenue, especially if it comes during a critical time - such as the
holiday season. This can be confirmed by the number merchants that have
migrated from other systems, to TrustCommerce. Please ask your consultant
for actual clients, we have plenty of client advocates willing to
share their experience.
Technology may be an unstable beast, but our engineers have ensured that it doesn't have to
seem that way when it comes to e-commerce.
